Hello everyone,
I’m sorry I’ve been so absent lately. I usually save the personal stuff for my other blog, but I have something to share with all of you.
I’ve been working on my portfolio website and starting a “professional blog” outside of Tumblr, so that’s been taking up a lot of time, in addition to school.

I Don’t Understand You People.
Everytime someone says they don’t like Rise Against on tumblr, I see a lot of Rise Against “fans” send them a lot of hate.
You call girls bitches, you call guys fags, and you say horrible things.
What is wrong with you?
Rise Against is amazing, and they stand for something amazing as well.
But the hate you spew out everytime someone doesn’t agree with that disgusts me.It’s hurtful.
Watch what you say.
PREACH. Let’s just all respect each other’s differences, okay? Not everyone has to like the same music. We don’t need to sink to a lower level and relentlessly insult others just because they don’t agree with our taste in music.
This song reminds me of middle school and the beginning of high school, and the angst and depression that was always just below the surface.
I want to laugh now as I envision my former self, locked away in my room, blasting this through my headphones, because it seems so silly to have felt that way. But life has been a slow uphill battle since even those darkest days, so instead I just wish I could hug my younger self and tell her that this shit doesn’t get much easier but she’s going to survive.
On a more positive note, this is actually my least favorite song by Papa Roach. I suppose on some level it should be socially unacceptable for me to like Papa Roach [isn’t it similar to joining Mathletes?], but they’re kind of my guilty pleasure, so no shame has been felt and no fucks have been given.
So here’s a story for you.
When I knew I was going to meet Rise Against, I knew I had to do something to show them how much I appreciate and love them. I needed to thank them somehow.
I made them all bracelets. I got letter beads and on each bracelet, I put one of my favorite songs by RA on.
on Tim’s I put “Heaven Knows XXX” on Zach’s I put “Survive XXX” on Joe’s I put “Like The Angel XXX” and on Brandon’s I put “Ready To Fall Barnes”.
At first I knew I was only going to be meeting Zach and Tim. I won a contest to meet just those two, which is still more than I could have ever asked for.
So after talking to them for about forty minutes, I pulled out their bracelets and explained to them. “Hey guys…I know this can’t compare to all the things you’ve done for me, but I made these for you as my way of showing you how much I appreciate you and I guess it’s my small way of saying thank you so much for anything.”
Zach and Tim both took the bracelets, looked at them, and said “Dude, these are amazing. You didn’t have to do that.” then Tim handed it back to me and stuck out his wrist and said “Tie that on?”
After I tied the bracelet on, I explained to them all the different ways that Heaven Knows and Survive have helped me. I told them about how Heaven Knows has always been that song that kept me going, pushing through all the shit, and helped me to understand that I’m worth something and that I shouldn’t feel like I don’t have a place here and shouldn’t be alive. Then I explained how Survive was always the extra motivation I needed to believe in myself and start to feel better. They looked me in the eyes the whole time, and responded to everything I said.
Then I pulled out the two bracelets for Joe and Brandon and I asked them to please give these to them. Tim looked at them, looked at Zach, and then said, “How about you give them to them yourself?” Obviously I asked what they could mean by that… then they introduced me to their manager. He gave me his number and told me to call him at the venue. When I did, I called him and he told me to give my name at the will call window. I was confused, but I did. Then the woman handed me backstage passes.
I couldn’t believe that they went through all this extra trouble for me, some kid they just met, just to make sure my dreams came true.
And they really did. :)
Yet another reason why I love this band. They’re genuinely nice guys and they care about their fans, something I now personally know as well.

This little speech meant the world to me, because just a few hours before Tim said that, I was one of those people who told them how much them and their music helped me. I told them it literally saved my life and it was touching to know that stories like that actually mean something to them.
